Meghalaya Govt To Raise ILP Issue During Next Meet With Home Minister Amit Shah

SHILLONG: The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Preston Tynsong recently informed that the state government will raise the matter of ILP (Inner Line Permit) during its upcoming meeting with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The Meghalaya government is looking forward to discuss with the Home Minister the problems for the implementation of Inner Line Permit in the states of the northeast.

The decision is taken in concern of reducing the rising national security vulnerabilities in the region.

The deputy CM further asserted that apart from ILP, the government will also highlight all other concerned and pending issues in its next meeting discussion with the Union Home Minister.

However, the date for the proposed meeting is not yet fixed as of now as clarified by Tynsong. He said that the Home Minister will select a date soon by himself to discuss all pending issues of Meghalaya, the dates will be informed when it is decided.

In order to allow inward movement of an Indian citizen into restricted or protected regions for a limited period, the Inner Line Permit holds the permit to official travel documents issued by the Central government.

This IPL was made with the aim of preserving the ethnicity and diverse culture of various tribes in the northeast.

For entering the regions of the Northeast and the border areas, it is essential for all Indian citizens to get a special permit.

Earlier in late 2019, numerous incidents of violence and arson broke out over the issue of Inner Line Permit (ILP) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which continued till the ignition period of the year 2020.

However, the outbreak of the global pandemic COVID-19 put a stop to the large-scale agitation until it was temporarily reignited by the end of the same year.
